Hi All, im a newbie LOL, Dont know how or where to introduce myself, so ill do it here, Im Col from Blackpool, Cobracol to people that know me, normally go to many car meets around the NW my favorite event so far Silverstone Classic, with Cholmondelely Pagent of Power being a close second and BNG 2010, but looking forward to many more new favorites, maybe Le Mans Classic

Am I allowed to say - the day I drove up the hill at goodwood in hubby's celica GT4. Ok, so hey we're still putting the bales out, so couldn't give it any, but it was pretty exciting!

I'm also new here, so just dragging up a few old posts!

2005, goodwoodFOS JACQUE VILLENEUVE was driving his fathers Dijon '79 Ferrari, right behind juha kankkunnens'93 championship winning Australia car. Juha and his engineer norbert couldn't believe we were more interested in his road / rally car celica than villeneuves 79 car. I did have a look at the ferrari and wave hi to jacques but the rally car was where my interest lay. As it happened it was getting to the end of the day. Juha had instructed norbert to slacken the ARB's off so he could be even more spectacular on his last run. Unfortunately just as juha was lining up on the grid the heavens opened in a deluge and he put the unmarked championship winning car that had been brought straight from Japan, toyotas museum It had been serviced and after that last Saturday run there wasn't a straight panel after a trip through the hay bales.

A friend of mine has an ex sainz celica which I have co driven for 3 years on the rally stage and whether going as a visitor or competitor and you are a petrol head it's nirvana. It's worth going for more than 1 day as there is so much to see. I have met juha, waldegard, petter solberg, Hannu mikola, to name but a few ex world championships and they nearly all have time to chat.

If you do go, make sure you get through the forest stage to see the current and historic cars. In fact last time we were there Bjorn waldegard was less than 2 seconds off mikko hirvenon
, Bjorn was in a 1990 st165 safari spec cer and mikko was in a current WRC car. The old boys still have it.

Sticking with the Rally theme, in 1969/70 ish the Ford rally forum rolled into Preston. Myself and a friend managed to get hold of two tickets for the event which was held at the Masonic Hall on Saul St. Stuart Turner hosted the forum and I am pretty sure that Roger Clark and or Hannu Mikkola were amongst the panellists. At 16 or 17 with little access to what was happening in the motorsport world other than sharing a copy of Motoring News much of the discussion went over our heads.

 

The main reason for going was to see the car that Ford had brought to the forum. A silver GT70. Ford had decided that the Mk1 Escort had been developed as far as possible and they needed a car developed specifically for motorsport and this was it here in Preston. Unfortunately Ford eventually cancelled the car when the regs changed I think.

 

I wish I could remember more about the event but after I passed my test it led to fifteen years following the RAC Rally around the country. Happy Days!

Ah .The golden days of Rallying with the group B of the eighties which I used to love so much.

I went to a stage at Chatsworth on hospltality one year . The twitter of the Audi S4 waste gate sticks in my memory along with flames on the overun

My best car event ever, by a huge margin, was Classic Le Mans 2010.  I went with my bro-in- law in his TVR S1. The drive there was an adventure in itself, the whole event was amazing, much better access to paddocks & stands etc than you ever get at the regular June 24 Heures event, at much lower cost. And the sound of those GT40's !!! .......WOW!   I even found I could speak French, which came as a surprise since I only learnt it in school about 50 years ago! Then we had 3 full laps of La Sarthe. It was also the biggest gathering of classic, sports & racing cars I have ever seen in my entire life. (And I am very very old!) I was so impressed with the trip that I bought my own TVR. Why should everyone else have all the fun?
