Event Description

Following the success of the Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival in 2011, which saw almost 5,000 people attend over the two day event, the Double Twelve will return in 2012 on the 16th - 17th June.  Once again expected to be the biggest motoring competition held at Brooklands since 1939, it is being organised in association with the Vintage Sports-Car Club.

The Double Twelve Driving Concours will involve 144 classic and vintage cars taking part in driving tests and a Concours d’Elegance over the two days, and up to 100 pre-war cars will take part in the Double Twelve Speed Trials, a sprint on the adjoining Mercedes-Benz World circuit on the Saturday. On Sunday, The Test Hill Challenge will take place in the early afternoon - expect everything from Sinclair C5s, bicycles and motorcycles to giant pre-war racing cars to tackle the steep Test Hill, with running races up the 352ft (107m) concrete slope for children. Some vehicles may even head down the Hill in a test of their brakes. With family entertainment as well, this is a weekend for everyone!

Details of classes for the Double Twelve Driving Concours and the Double Twelve Speed Trials have been released and entries are open. This year there are special classes in the Driving Concours celebrating 50 glorious years of the MGB and 80 years of the Coupe des Dames - a class confined to lady drivers using sports and rally cars.  Further interest will come from a class pitting evergreen VW Beetles against Citroen 2CVs.  The established historic Brooklands classes will this year commemorate the 105th anniversary of the opening of the Brooklands race track on 17th June 1907 and we hope that these classes will feature Austin Sevens, a marque which itself celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2012.

“The Voice” & His Vehicles

Frank Sinatra was called “The Voice” from early in his career.   He was heard on his first recording with the Harry James Band singing “All Or Nothing At All” which sold about 8,000 copies that year, later to sell millions as he became better known. As he became famous with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, we have few hints on his growing interest in classy cars. He and his wife Nancy…

An Automotive Year in 5 Photos

Posted by Fayaz on December 24, 2013 at 17:45 0 Comments

Twenty-thirteen has been an eventful year for the automotive world. We've seen birthdays: The iconic Porsche 911 hit 50, and Aston Martin has made it to 100.

Many interesting cars have been released, from the nippy Ford Fiesta ST, through the breathtaking Jaguar F Type range, right through to the next generation of hypercars. Mclaren, Ferrari and Porsche have proven that a hybrid is no longer the exclusive preserve of the eco-hatchbacks, whilst setting blisteringly fast Nurburgring…
